My name is Becky Valentine and I am a pet-friendly architectural designer, creator of The Barkitect blog, and loving owner of two beautiful Great Danes…
As a designer and project manager at BDA Architecture, an award winning firm that specializes in animal care facilities, my job is to design spaces for people and pets. My project list includes everything from animal shelters and veterinary hospitals, to guide dog facilities and pet resorts. Whether I’m laying out floor plans or selecting modern, pet-friendly interior finishes, I strive to create beautiful and functional spaces for humans and animals to share.
After finding a career that combines my love for dogs with my love for architecture, I found myself wanting to explore how I could combine dogs with other genres of design. The Barkitect Blog is my way to do exactly that. Whether it’s fashion, home decorating, fine arts, or photography, my goal is to find the best examples of great design with a canine twist. The Barkitect Blog has been featured in Modern Dog Magazine and Pawsh Magazine.
My dogs are a BIG part of my life, not just because they are both Great Danes and over 120 pounds each, but because they fill my life with happiness and pride. They are my inspiration and the reason I decided to pursue my dream of becoming an architect for the animal care industry. I credit a large part of my success in both my career and personal life to their unrelenting loyalty and love. Their names are Vader and Vixen, and the three of us live in Albuquerque, NM.
